Lingerie Inspired by 12th Century Manga Scrolls, Choju-Giga, or the Choju-Jinbutsu-Giga

Japanese lingerie maker Peach John incorporates whimsical art into intimate apparel, adopting the motifs of Chōjū-Jinbutsu Giga (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans), said to be Japan’s oldest manga.

Housed at the Kosanji temple in Kyoto, the four ten-meter scrolls date back to the 12th and 13th centuries, and are a well-loved National Treasure that rarely go on public display.

Apparently, many animators believe Chōjū-Jinbutsu Giga to be the origin of Japanese animated movies, since the anthropomorphic animals were drawn with expressive faces and sometimes “speed lines”, a technique used in manga and anime, to this day.

Here to prolong your viewing pleasure, neat animations from Studio Ghibli inspired by Choju-Giga, tells the story of mutual compassion and cooperation between a hare and a frog:

Studio Ghibli produced three commercials in 2016 for the Marubeni Group.

In the third installment, titled “The Journey Continues,” the rabbit runs away from the frog in tears as it begins to rain, only for the frog to return to the rabbit, with a lily pad umbrella in tow.

Marubeni Group is the fifth-largest sogo shosha (general trading companies) that has leading market shares in cereal and paper pulp trading, as well as a strong electrical and industrial plant business. Company seems to have good taste. They must even wear Peach John.
