Unwilling explorers find themselves trapped in inexplicable liminal spaces that make no logical sense, and they may not be alone. Only a handful of found media has made it to the public, which raises the question: How many people have gone missing in the backrooms, and what are they?
A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.
RELEASE DATE: May 29 DIRECTOR: Kane Parsons CAST: Mark Duplass, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell
I have been following Kane Parsons a.k.a. Kane Pixels VFX short films since 2022, and everyone was saying back then that Kane —— then 16-years-old —— was destined to write and direct a movie some day, and here we are.
Many assert that the seed of inspiration came in the form of a single photograph on a random online image board, first posted Sun 22 Apr 2018, then again Mon 13 May 2019 with accompanying text:
post disquieting images that just feel “off”

Four months later Fri 13 Sep 2019, the image was again reposted, this time with the first description of the Backrooms:
If you’re not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you’ll end up in the Backrooms, where it’s nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in
God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you

The rest, as they say, is creepypasta history. A creepypasta is a horror-related legend which has been shared around the Internet. The term creepypasta has since become a catch-all term for any horror content posted onto the Internet. These entries are often brief, user-generated, paranormal stories that are intended to frighten readers. Backrooms is one such creepypasta, that Kane Parsons has turned into a mythology, unfolding in some unnerving plain of existence that no one, not even the venturous souls below, knows the total extent of.
